Pulmotonia

Strong Lung/Weak Liver

For individuals with this constitution, any medication is harmful. The body also suffers after eating meat. Because the liver functions weakly, a diet of vegetables is recommended. It is also beneficial to spend much time standing with the back straight. Individuals with this constitution should avoid sunbathing and perspiring. They should practice breathing with short inhalation and long exhalation.

Pathology

Atopic dermatitis, which is known to be incurable, occurs mostly in individuals with this constitution and rarely in those with other constitutions. When an individual who belongs to this constitution eats meat constantly, he may suffer from atopic dermatitis. This disease can be cured by abstaining from meat. Most of the individuals suffering from atopic dermatitis have this body constitution.

Pulmotonia Story

Atopic dermatitis is a particular disease that affects only individuals who have the pulmotonia constitution; these individuals should abstain from meat throughout their lives. This disease is rarely found among individuals with other constitutions. Therefore, those who suffer from atopic dermatitis can be considered to have the pulmotonia constitution, even without taking further measures to discern their constitution. Pulmotonia individuals who have gold teeth may experience indescribable pain. In some cases this pain is followed by abnormal thirst and parotitis, which can develop into cancer. Anyone who experiences unusual pain after getting gold tooth can be considered to have the pulmotonia constitution. Although it is harmful for the pulmotonia constitution, gold is beneficial for individuals who have other constitutions. In Korea there is a saying: “Wearing a gold tooth is better than drinking tonic.” This means that gold is precious and has a positive effect on all kinds of people. On the contrary, however, gold can act like poison to individuals who have the pulmotonia constitution. This is therefore one confirming indication that an individual has the pulmotonia constitution.

As mentioned above, the most harmful food for pulmotonia individuals is meat. The theory that I am presenting to you is known neither to western medicine nor to oriental medicine. Through careful study I have discovered that in terms of nutrition, meat affects the lungs and the colon. In other words, meat promotes the function of the lungs and the colon. Pulmotonia individuals are born with large, strong lungs. If meat is eaten regularly, lungs that are already strong will become increasingly stronger and thus suppress the function of other weaker organs, causing them to be further weakened. Therefore, to refrain from eating meat is the first and foremost prerequisite for pulmotonia individuals to maintain good health. Moreover, they should avoid drinking coffee, because the caffeine contained in coffee suppresses the parasympathetic nerve system. The sympathetic nerve system in pulmotonia individuals is always active, whereas their parasympathetic system is slow. Caffeine stimulates the sympathetic nerve system, resulting in the weakening of the parasympathetic system, and thus causing harm for individuals who have the pulmotonia constitution. Atropine injections have a similar effect on these individuals. Atropine injections also prove to be harmful, because they also suppress the parasympathetic nerve system and, furthermore, slow down the activity of the heart. Often when pulmotonia individuals are given an atropine injection before a surgical operation, they cannot wake up within even seven or eight hours after the surgery.

One of the foods that are beneficial for the pulmotonia constitution is shellfish from the ocean. Shellfish not only contain beneficial nutrients but also act like medicine for pulmotonia individuals. This is because the pulmotonia constitution is characterized by a strong lung and a weak liver, which is the antagonist to the lung, and shellfish enhance the function of the liver. To repeat, shellfish can both serve as medicine and provide good nutrients. Also, all kinds of salt-water fish are beneficial for this constitution, whereas fresh-water fish, such as eel and loach, are as harmful as meat. In addition, while meat greatly affects this constitution in a negative way, vegetables are excellent foods for this constitution.

Like shellfish, dextrose injections serve as both medicine and a supply of good nutrients to the pulmotonia constitution. A gentleman once visited my clinic and told me his story. He said that he was healthy at that time, but three months prior he had had a serious stroke and had gone to the hospital. The doctors concluded that his case was hopeless but nevertheless decided to give him a dextrose injection. Somehow, his condition gradually improved after the injection and he was eventually restored to full health. The doctors were amazed and deemed this a miracle of God’s mercy, and he was also very thankful. After listening to his story, I was certain that he might have the pulmotonia constitution. When I discerned his body constitution, his constitution indeed turned out to be pulmotonia. Thus, I told him that though it is true that God’s mercy provided him a miracle, had his condition not been as serious and had the doctors been able to take some measure besides injecting dextrose, he would not have recovered completely. I also told him that it was God’s mercy that when he went to the hospital, his condition was such that he did not even require a body examination.

In summary, when pulmotonia individuals are constantly under a diet that includes meat, they are increasingly susceptible to various diseases. However, if they abstain from meat, they can better avoid contracting diseases and having to go to the hospital. These are the characteristics of the pulmotonia constitution.
