Strong Colon/Weak Gallbladder
For individuals with this constitution, eating meat or getting angry may result in muscle cramps. If muscle cramping occurs, they should immediately refrain from eating meat and should avoid getting upset. They should also avoid sunbathing and perspiring.
Individuals with the colonotonia constitution suffer from a kind of myasthenia progressive muscular atrophy, which causes muscle contractions that begin from the right leg and then progress upward. This does not paralyze the body; thus, patients still retain a sense of touch. However, because the muscles get contracted and are rendered non-functioning, this incurable disease disables the patients from walking or moving. When an individual who has this constitution constantly eats meat or herbal medicine containing deer horn, he is likely to contract this disease. This peculiar disease for the colonotonia constitution can be treated with constitutional therapy.

Some of you might have heard of progressive muscular atrophy. The symptoms of this disorder are as follow: though the tactile sense remains normal, and the legs can be stretched, muscles grow weak starting from the right leg, and eventually, the ability to walk is lost. The same condition spreads to the upper part of the body, leading to death in some cases. The colonotonia constitution is susceptible to contracting progressive muscular atrophy. Colonotonia individuals are born with a long colon, which is three times as long as that of other constitutions. Just as some individuals are tall in stature while others are short, some have longer colons while others’ colons are shorter. Having a long colon in itself is not a disorder, but it may become the root cause of many disorders. When colonotonia individuals are constantly keeping a diet that includes meat, their colon inclines toward one side of the body and thus suppresses the normal function of other internal organs, eventually causing muscular atrophy. Therefore, meat is definitely harmful to this constitution.
A diet of meat causes atopic dermatitis in pulmotonia individuals but not in colonotonia individuals, whereas the same diet of meat causes progressive muscular atrophy in colonotonia individuals but not in pulmotonia individuals. Hence, it can be concluded that progressive muscular atrophy is a particular disease that affects only colonotonia individuals.
Deer antler, an oriental herbal medicine, is an excellent medicine for certain constitutions, but it is fatal for colonotonia. I will discuss this further that, in contrast, deer antler is beneficial to those whose colons are short in length.
To repeat, colonotonia individuals should not take meat. Then what foods are beneficial for this constitution? One of them is buckwheat, a common food in Japan. Buckwheat has a critical effect on the colonotonia constitution?it reduces the strength of the colon. There is an old Korean saying: “Having too much buckwheat makes your colon thin.” Buckwheat suppresses the strength of the colon and controls its function, thus acting as an effective medicine for colonotonia.
If colonotonia individuals refrain from eating meat and take buckwheat regularly, even muscular atrophy can be reduced. Along with buckwheat, vegetables and fish are also beneficial foods for this constitution. In addition, swimming is encouraged as the most beneficial exercise, whereas hot baths should be avoided. Colonotonia individuals should avoid perspiring and sun-bathing. Although swimming is also beneficial for pulmotonia individuals, its positive effects are more pronounced for colonotonia individuals.
