Answer: I presented the theory of Eight Constitution Medicine for the first time at the International Acupunctural Conference in Tokyo in October, 1965. It caused a sensation in the realm of oriental medicine in Korea. People regarded the doctors who studied this theory as medical heretics, and some even issued a statement in major newspapers that I should be expelled from the oriental medicine society. I understood their negative reaction toward my theory, as the Eight Constitution Medicine was a totally new idea to what oriental medicine had known up until then.

At that time, a North Korean named Bong Han Kim, who had been studying the meridian pathways, was coming to Tokyo, and many people were looking forward to his coming. In those days, the majority of people believed that meridian pathways did not exist, because they are invisible. However, it was said that Mr. Bong Han Kim had proved anatomically the existence of meridian pathways and had published a thesis on this subject. Therefore, people wanted to invite him to present his findings so that they might witness the existence of meridian pathways with their own eyes. The organization hosting the conference visited North Korea three times and requested his attendance at the conference. Finally, at length, Kim consented to attend the conference only under the condition that no one from South Korea would attend the conference.

After submitting the draft of my thesis to the host organization in Tokyo, I waited for a long time for an invitation to the conference and the permission to visit Japan, but I did not receive any response from the organization. Later, I found out why they did not invite me to the conference. They did not send me an invitation letter.  Not only so, but they also neglected to read the draft of my thesis.

I protested strongly, saying that the matter of ideology or politics should not affect any academic conferences. Finally, the organization accepted my objection and read my thesis, which elicited much surprise. They found my theory to be not only revolutionary, but also well-organized in its logic.  Consequently, they immediately sent me an invitation.

After presenting my thesis on October 24th at the International Acupunctural Conference, the host organization of the conference informed me that Mr. Kim had made up his mind to come to Japan for the conference. His coming was dependent only upon whether he could obtain permission to enter Japan. Eventually, he attended the conference. After the conference some people asked my opinion on meridian pathways. I responded, 쏮eridian pathways are manifested only in a living person. When that person dies, the meridian pathways are also destroyed. We can dissect only a dead person. I do not know how he could identify meridian pathways, but it is impossible to find meridian pathways from a dead body. In any case, I presented the Eight Constitution Theory in Tokyo for the first time abroad outside of Korea.
